About Shift Web Studio.
Most people find me after the last person stopped answering.
It happens the same way every time. The site works, mostly. Nobody knows where the backups live. The hosting login belongs to someone who moved away in 2022. And there’s a plugin update notice sitting in the dashboard nobody wants to touch, because touching it once broke the homepage.
I’m Mark. I fix those, and then I keep them fixed.
What I do all day
I build WordPress and Elementor websites for small businesses, and I run monthly care for the sites I build and plenty I didn’t.
Care means updates, backups, security monitoring, uptime checks, and someone answering the phone when something breaks. Every month you get a report listing every update, backup and scan that ran on your site, written in simple terms. No jargon, and nothing you have to decode.
The work is unglamorous. Updates run on a copy first, images get resized, a plugin gets swapped for a lighter one. Done consistently, it means you never think about your website. Skipped for a year, it means a white screen on a Tuesday and a bill you didn’t plan for.
How I got here
I started building websites in 2008 out of Los Angeles.
For years I ran under the name Shift Media. Same work, same approach, different sign on the door. I moved to Phoenix in 2017 and rebranded to Shift Web Studio in 2026 to reflect what the business became: less one-off builds, more long-term care for owners who need a site to hold up without their attention.
Along the way I’ve worked with non-profits, website security company, VOIP business, pest control, residential painter, crossfit gym, jiu jitsu studio, architecture firms, and venture capitalists. Different industries, same underlying problem. The website was built once and then left alone.
Why I work the way I do
I run the studio, and you work with me. When a job needs a specialist, an accessibility tester, a custom developer, a copywriter, I bring one in and I stay the person you talk to.
I don’t promise rankings or traffic numbers. Nobody controls those.
I don’t sell a plan and then find reasons to add to the invoice.
If a project isn’t worth doing, I’ll say so, even when saying so costs me the work.
And I’m not the right fit for everyone. If you want a 40 page enterprise build run through a project manager and a shared Slack channel, there are bigger shops built for that. If you want your website handled by the person who does the work, that’s what this is.
What I'm not
I’m not an agency with account managers sitting between you and the work. You work with me directly, start to finish. Some jobs need outside help, an accessibility tester or a developer for something custom, and I bring that person in and manage them.
Anyone guaranteeing you a number one ranking is guessing. I’d rather show you the work, on schedule, with a report every month explaining what changed and why.
I don’t sell a plan and then find reasons to add to the invoice. Same price every month.
If a project isn’t worth doing, you’ll hear it from me, even when saying so costs me the work.
And I’m not the right fit for everyone. If a project isn’t worth doing, I’ll tell you before you spend the money. Sometimes the right move is fixing three things on the site you have instead of building a new one, and I’d rather say that than take the bigger job.
Where I'm Located
Phoenix, Arizona. I work remotely, so there’s no office to visit, and most of what I do happens over email, phone, and screen share.
I serve Phoenix, Scottsdale, Tempe, Mesa, Chandler, Gilbert, Glendale, Peoria, Ahwatukee, Anthem, New River, and Queen Creek. Clients outside the Valley are welcome too. Website care travels fine.
If you are local and want the longer version, here is how I work as a WordPress developer in Phoenix.
Outside of work
I ride mountain bikes. I also help run a nonprofit focused on mountain biking and mental health, which is where a lot of my nonprofit website experience comes from.
It’s relevant here for one reason. I know what it’s like to sit on a board, look at a donate page nobody has touched in three years, and have no budget to fix it.
